A Billion-Dollar "Drink" for Our Dying Springs?
MAYO, FL - As Lafayette County battles a "severe to extreme" drought that has left the ground parched and river levels gasping, a billion-dollar rescue mission is finally taking shape to save our water supply.
Suwannee River officials recently presented the "Water First North Florida" project to regional leaders, unveiling a massive plan to pump 40 million gallons of purified water back into the Floridan Aquifer every single day. For the people of Mayo, this is a high-stakes effort to prevent permanent damage to the underground "bank account" that provides every drop of water for our homes, our schools, and our cattle.
