Future Leaders Wanted: Florida American Legion Boys State is Recruiting Class of 2027 for 1-Week Leadership Program

MAYO, Fla. — Local high school students from the Class of 2027 are being called to step into the shoes of state leaders. Florida American Legion Boys State (FALBS) has announced its 2026 session dates, scheduled for June 21st through June 27th, 2026, and the search is on for Lafayette and surrounding counties' most promising young men to fill these coveted spots..

This premier leadership academy is far more than a summer camp; it is a highly competitive, week-long immersion into the inner workings of government. Participants will travel to Tallahassee, staying on the Florida State University campus, to build a "mock" state government from the ground up.

A Week That Shapes Futures

For the selected delegates, the experience is transformative. "Citizens" of Boys State are assigned to mythical political parties and tasked with organizing city, county, and state governments. Throughout the week, they will:

  • Campaign for elected office.
  • Draft and debate legislative bills.
  • Learn the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.
  • Engage in city, county, and state simulations.

For students eyeing competitive college admissions or military academies, completion of Florida Boys State is a significant accolade, widely recognized as a mark of leadership and character.

Urgent Call for Applicants

Admission to the program is selective, and spots for the local area are strictly limited. The program targets "rising seniors"—students who will complete their junior year in May 2026 and graduate in 2027.

This opportunity is open to young men attending public high schools, as well as those who are privately educated or enrolled in home school programs.

Due to the competitive nature of the selection process, interested students and parents are urged to act immediately. The application process typically involves an interview to ensure candidates demonstrate the high academic and moral standards required by the American Legion.
