Proposed Burn Ban: County Commission Acts as ‘Extreme Drought’ Grips Lafayette County
MAYO, Fla. — In response to rapidly worsening drought conditions and a spike in regional fire activity, the Lafayette County Commission will vote Tuesday on an emergency order to ban outdoor burning county-wide.
If passed, Resolution No. 2025-11-02 would declare a state of local emergency, prohibiting the use of outdoor burning devices, flares, explosives, sparklers, and "any other lawful outdoor burning" . The vote is scheduled for the Board's regular meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 5:30 p.m. .
