We're celebrating a massive milestone! In less than a month, we've hit 1,000 followers! 🥳
In many places, that might seem like a small number, but for us, it's monumental: That’s approximately 95% of the citizens of Mayo and over 12% of all Lafayette County residents! That means (number wise) nearly every person in Mayo and more than 1 in 10 people across the entire county are following our journey!
Lafayette County News started as a passion project for Rhett Coleman and Adam Wence with two simple goals in mind:
- To give Mayo the news coverage it has desperately needed since the Mayo Free Press went away.
- To always choose being accurate over being "first."
While news doesn't always seem to happen right inside Mayo, our team is doing its best to find the stories that affect Lafayette County, whether they happen inside our borders or out.
Meet the Team:
👋 Rhett Coleman is a proud 2009 graduate of Lafayette High School, Rhett’s family roots in Mayo date back to the 1800s. His passion for storytelling began right here when he founded the LHS News Program as a student. 20 years later, he noticed a gap in coverage after the closure of the Mayo Free Press and realized that instead of piecing together news from different sources, he should help build a dedicated, reliable resource for the community he loves.
👋 Adam Wence is the founder and editor of two other successful local newspapers. Driven by a passion for government transparency, he operates on a powerful principle: the people deserve to know what’s happening in their own backyard. He is bringing his experience in factual reporting and accountability to help make Lafayette County News a true "paper for the people."
